The 7-storey HQ is architecturally anchored in Samarinda, East Borneo. The hillside plot presented a major design dilemma, requiring the structure to be meticulously integrated with its natural surroundings. The main building mass was designed with four levels, arranged in a stepped and terraced configuration that strictly follows the contours of the steep hill. The building is enveloped by green, tree-covered hills.
Aesthetically, the structure embraces a Modern/Minimalist style, characterized by distinct cubist forms, clean straight lines, and flat roofs. The palette is dominated by solid white and light gray tones.
A prominent feature is the large swimming pool situated on the lower, front level, with its bright blue tiles already installed. The facade itself consists primarily of solid white walls, punctuated by clearly defined horizontal and vertical rectangular window openings. Furthermore, some areas, especially near the pool, feature decorative grille patterns or brise soleil motifs, adding texture and potentially providing solar shading.
Moving into the interior, the spatial layout is optimised to create a continuous visual dialogue between the workspace and the verdant landscape beyond. The inclusion of floor-to-ceiling glazing on every storey not only floods the offices with natural light but also presents the panoramic vistas of Samarinda and the surrounding hills as a dynamic backdrop. The unique stepped structure is functionally utilised to curate a series of roof gardens or open terraces at various levels, providing green breakout spaces for occupants to enjoy fresh air, whilst softening the transition between the rigid concrete form and the surrounding wilderness.
Beyond aesthetics, the design employs intelligent modern tropical architectural principles to respond to Kalimantan’s hot and humid climate. The brise soleil elements and grille patterns on the façade are not merely ornamental; they perform a vital function as sun shading to mitigate internal heat gain without compromising air circulation.

This two-storey building, standing on a 130-square-metre land plot, is identical to the Tropical Modern/Contemporary Minimalist style, dominated by strong horizontal and vertical lines. The most prominent feature is the layered, cube-shaped façade, which creates a floating impression. The 9-metre-wide geometric canopy has minimal columns, allowing for maximum use of the shaded space, which is sufficient for parking two cars and one motorbike.
The interior features large openings with a height of 3 metres, making the space feel warm and bright. The use of sliding windows also aids ventilation, ensuring good air circulation.
The colour scheme is dominated by light white/cream as the main wall colour, combined with dark grey accented with wood and natural Travertine stone.
Moving into the interior, the spatial layout is optimised to create a continuous visual dialogue between the workspace and the verdant landscape beyond. Situated on Jalan Wijaya Kusuma in the city of Samarinda, this Coffee Studio is designed with a modern industrial architectural approach that emphasises the expression of the steel structure, honest materials, and an interplay of transparency through expansive glass façades. The combination of steel elements, exposed brickwork, and shading panels creates an aesthetic that is bold whilst remaining elegant and contextual to its surroundings.
The interior features an open atrium with natural vegetation serving as a visual centre of orientation and facilitating air circulation. Natural materials utilised on the floors and walls provide a texture that is contrasting yet harmonious with the building’s modern character. Public spaces, such as the café and seating areas, are designed with a flexible open-plan layout, fostering social activity and interaction amongst users.
